Calling all budding or published children’s book writers and illustrators from anywhere in Scotland – the Scottish branch of an international organisation is offering the chance talk to some of the greats in the business at two events in Edinburgh this Spring.
The events being hosted by the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) in Scotland begin with an Illustrators Day on Saturday 3rd Feb 2007 at Edinburgh College of Art, Lauriston Place, Edinburgh. Artists of all ages and experience who are interested in children’s picture book work will be able to discuss writing and illustrating with successful author and illustrator John Fardell; hear about writing and drawing graphic novels, comic book art and the new version of ‘Kidnapped’ from legendary artist Cam Kennedy and writer Alan Grant; finding inspiration and success after college with Head of Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art Jonathon Gibbs and award-winning young illustrator Catherine Rayner. Acclaimed children’s author Vivian French will be master of ceremonies.
Please note – Illustrator, cartoonist and writer Harry Horse, who was to have spoken on the day, has died suddenly. A tribute will be paid to him at the event.
The SCBWI Writers Day will take place on Saturday 3rd March 2007 at the Scottish Storytelling Centre, High St, Edinburgh. Successful children’s writers will be talking about their own experiences and the fine art of storytelling; hear and talk to award-winning author Simon Puttock, poet and writer Liz Niven, Caitrin Armstrong of the Scottish Book Trust, Philippa Cochrane of BRAW, master storyteller Lawrence Tulloch, & Lindsey Fraser of Fraser Ross Associates. A unique opportunity to get out of our garrets, meet other writers, and talk books and stories for a day.
