Professional Series: Hooking the reader

Description:

Sarah Hughes , associate publisher at Penguin, will share her insights into grabbing an editor's and the readers' attention in the first page. Attendees will be asked to submit a synopsis and the first two pages of a novel or short fiction in advance. Sarah will use examples from attendees to illustrate her points on how to elevate your manuscript out of the slush pile.

Preference will be given to SCBWI members who have paid for entire 2006 Professional Series. Please submit the first pages of an original piece of children's fiction to murray_in_london@hotmail.com by April 24, 2006.
