Day-Before Conference Critique Meet
Friday, November 12, 2009
A great way to break the ice, meet other SCBWI members, show off your writing or portfolios! We will split up into groups (Picture Books, Illustrators, YA, Younger Fiction) led by experienced SCBWI members to discuss each other's work. PB can bring texts to read aloud, if they wish, novelists can agree beforehand to submit chapters in advance.
Afterwards, everyone can filter off hand in hand into the sunset to sample Winchester's many excellent restaurants and bars. Our timings are to still to be confirmed but we hope to gather at 6pm for a 6.30pm critique start and finish by 8pm at the latest. We are negotiating a venue within the campus. Please check back for more details.

A competition for our tenth birthday: THE TEN WORD HOOK!
Create a compelling ten-word pitch, blurb or book opening! Bring your perfectly crafted words - 10 or less - on a slip of paper and drop it into our competition box when you get to the conference. So much to say, so few words!
Creative Ten Commandments Competition
As SCBWI-BI is ten years old we'd like you to tell us your top ten tips for creative people. These can be generally about creativity or specifically aimed at writers or illustrators or a mixture of both. Tell us your dos, your don'ts or any creative rules you like. Make them as helpful / unhelpful, as serious / funny as you want. But don't forget one rule: ENTER THE COMPETITION. Top tens can be submitted in any form; written or illustrated, but must be a maximum size of one A4 sheet of paper, preferably A5, if possible. Bring them on the day with your name written lightly on the reverse of the paper. There's a prize to be won!
An Exhibition of Your Best Illustration Work
Call for Submissions
SCBWI illustrator members are invited to submit work for our
first ever print-exhibition! SCBWI wants to show off the range of our members talents from all corners
of the region. The first display will be held during the two days of the
Winchester Conference. We'll also post the works on a web gallery..
